Brunch Club

The sign outside the Brunch Club, Patterson and Main Dayton, says it is the number one breakfast spot in Dayton. That is a misnomer. Who else serves breakfast in the city besides the Racquet Club? Being the only spot is not the same as being the best spot.

Having been there at least 1/2 dozen times, by necessity not choice, I have found the following to be true. Service is mediocre. The Waffle House does better to keep my coffee warm. The food also mediocre at best. The biscuits and gravy are frozen and not from scratch. The last two times I have ordered this diner standard the gravy was lukewarm and the biscuits room temperature at best. Both are sure signs of microwave preperation.

The brunch club does fill a much needed void in the downtown breakfast niche. Since the closing of the Americana Grill (is that the right name?) in the basement of Talbot Towers there is little other place to go for breakfast. The brunch club has good bones, a great menu and decent prices.  For my next business breakfast I think I will drive south to the Golden Nugget or (gasp!) a chain like Bob Evans.

The brunch club can focus on two things to make this the best place for breakfast. The first is customer service, the second is scratch cooking and fresh food. They can take a cue from the Golden Nugget or any chain joint.

  1. You aren’t doing the local’s any favors by writing reviews like this.
And- you may want to check out the Legacy Pancake house on Keowee- in the old Golden Nugget- or Tanks for breakfast. I think the Morraine Embassy also serves breakfast.
I’ll hold off adding you to my blogroll until you get a few more posts on this site.

    • @blogo what is it that you think isn’t doing any favors? Honest food reporting?

  2. “honest” is fine- however, there is an old saying-
“if you don’t have anything nice to say- don’t say it”- and when it comes to local establishments- if you want to see them go under- keep it up.
Better to talk about their pluses- like decor- or skip the review.
Leave a small tip- talk to the manager- but it’s much more helpful to find good places and review their food.
Go read http://www.winemedinemecincinnati.com to see how it’s done.

  3. Still like “Bunny’s” Hasty Tasty on Linden – tchochkes all over the place. Damn good breakfast

I completely disagree with this comment. What the heck is a review supposed to be, feel good pablum?

The reviewer did his field work: “Having been there at least 1/2 dozen times…” and was not shooting his mouth off based upon one visit.

And he added a constructive suggestion.

IMO this was a harsh, but quite worthy review. Save the vacuous boosterism for the chamber of commerce publications…

(Is this the old Breakfast Club? Breakfast Club in Lebanon does very well.)
